Gerard Johnstone was born in Invercargill,
New Zealand's Southern-most city and the only region in the country with it's
own accent. Gerard caught the eye of
local network executives after winning the 48 hour film competition and went on
to write and direct NZ's most successful narrative comedy series The Jaquie Brown Diaries. The show won best comedy 2 years running at
the NZ Film & TV Awards and the Boston Globe's Matthew Gilbert said it
'tops what passes for comedy on the networks'.
With his producing partner Luke Sharpe,
Gerard formed the company Semi-Professional Pictures and will begin production
on a remake of the cult New Zealand 80s TV series 'Terry Teo' later this year.
